Warrington Head of the Mersey 2026

On the 8th February Trafford headed to Warrington with 21 crew to race across the day, returning with an outstanding return of 11 wins overall. Despite rain being forecast, Trafford athletes were greeted with a lovely sunny day and minimal stream on the 2 leg format of the 3.6km bendy course- making for an exciting day racing. 💚

It was a strong day for the our junior squad, who secured 7 wins and produced many great performances across the event. The W J16 4x- was the fastest Trafford crew of the day and delivered an incredible performance despite a steering failure mid race, forcing them to pressure steer an already challenging course. They still managed to take the win by over a minute, highlighting their composure and making them a crew to watch given their impressive winning streak so far this season. 🥇

Another highlight came from the W J14 4x+, who dominated their race to win by over 2 minutes, showing impressive stamina and determination. It was a super comeback after finishing 2nd at Junior Head of the North, so a clear sign of their progress. Shoutout to Jessica who jumped in as cox on the day straight after winning her own race with Rebecca in the W J18 2x! 🥇

Trafford's seniors and masters also had an excellent outing, securing 4 wins between them.

Super sub Louis raced in the Mx 2x with Emily to form a coaches double, and bringing the first win of the day for Trafford in division 1. The Op Mas A 2x secured a win despite a minor 'crash' on the course, a surprise for both Matty and Fin in true Trafford fashion! Further victories came from the Mx MasD 4x and the Op MasD 4+, with a good lead in both categories, and clearly demonstrating Trafford's strong MasD rowers 💪

There were also plenty of strong performances from all other Trafford crews, with many second places and close finishes across the board.
