Assistant Junior Coach
Ellen Hardisty

Ellen began her rowing career at Trafford in the summer of 2016 during an ‘Olympics’ taster day when she was 12  - she immediately became hooked.

She says: "Martin coached me over the next few months until Runcorn Sprint Regatta where I raced for the first time (having never done a start in my life); I won all three events I raced in and from there, there was no going back really.

โ€‹

After Runcorn, I raced my first national regatta,
2017 Brit Champs, in a double with Cara Loates.
A few years later, the National Squad was set up and we began training 8 times a week. It was here that I
really developed my knowledge of all things rowing and we improved in leaps and bounds, coming 3rd at
Brit Champs 2019 which I can still comfortably say was the best day of my life.

After Storm Dennis cancelled most of the 2019 head season and Covid19 moved our 2020 regatta season
onto zoom, I made the decision to move to Northwich RC in August of 2020 to start college at Sir
John Deanes, studying PE, Maths and Psychology with the hopes to go onto Sport and Exercise Sciences at Oxford Brookes, to allow me to go onto coaching full time, or another sport related role, in the future. The degree aside, I will be able to row for Brookes which is pretty cool.

Joining a new squad at Northwich was a bit daunting but we learnt lots from each other and being under a
new coaching style was interesting. In the summer of 2021 I raced at Henley Royal which was a surreal
experience to say the least.

In terms of coaching, not too long after Henley I paid to do my L2 Session Coach qualification to allow
me to coach the J14s at Northwich. Two of the lads qualified for JIRR which miraculously actually took
place for the first time in years. Back at Trafford, I helped coach pretty much every row start course
between 2017-2020, mainly the kids’ ones but some adults too. I also got taught to coach from the coxes
seat after a few years of being the Trafford Women’s squad cox."
