Trafford took 2 crews to the first round of the Explorer Series at Runcorn Rowing Club, joining 17 crews from 10 clubs for an exciting day of short-course racing. The unique format saw each crew race 4 times over a 300m course, making for plenty of racing, close finishes, and opportunities to put training into practice.

In the Open category, Trafford’s "Quadfather" put in a strong set of performances across the day, taking 1 win from 4 races and showing good pace and composure throughout. The competition was fierce, with "Swirley Puddles" from Warrington looking particularly strong this year and setting the benchmark in several races. Thank you to Nic who joined this crew from the women's quad, couldn't have done it without you!

Trafford’s women’s crew, "4 Peas in a Quad" may not have taken a win this time, but they were right in the mix throughout the day, including a very close race against "Mere Mortals" from Windermere RC keeping everyone on their toes. There were plenty of competitive crews on show, with "Cakeland" from Lakeland RC and "Weaver Divas" from Runcorn RC also looking like crews to watch as the series continues.

This first race in the Explorer Series was a really positive experience for our rowers. Lots of racing opportunities, a relaxed but competitive atmosphere, and a great chance for them to build confidence and experience on the rowing scene.

“It was a great team atmosphere and support.”

“Really fun to put into practice what we’ve been learning since the autumn! Super supportive atmosphere and looking forward to the next one.”
“In my 7th decade, doing something new is a personal challenge, physically and mentally. Today I won my first rowing race and I don’t want it to be the last. Great support and enthusiasm from everyone."

A great day of racing for our adult development squad. Thank you to our coaches Oscar and Jessica, and Susie for coxing. Well done Trafford! 🖤💚 Thank you to Runcorn for hosting a fantastic event 💙
