Trafford sent 5 competitive crews to Nottingham for an exciting day of racing on the lake at Holme Pierrepoint. With the new format replicating Met Regatta, crews took on a 1500 m time trial followed by 2k finals later in the division, making for a packed day of racing and a new experience for most crews. Weather conditions in the morning provided a helpful tailwind and some quick racing, before Nottingham delivered its usual afternoon chop and tougher water as the wind picked up through the day. 🍃

Morning Division

The W Club 4+ of Rowan, Harriet, Natalia, Kate, with Catherine coxing, produced a standout performance. Trafford may have initially been underestimated (JRN), but the crew proved themselves with an impressive 5th place finish in the time trial and an initial standing of 3rd in W Club 4+ behind first boats from City of Oxford and Agecroft. Going into the A Final it was clear it would be an exciting race. The crew set a strong pace early on and battled hard throughout, ultimately finishing 2nd in their category and 4th overall in the A Final. A brilliant effort from the crew, well done ladies! 🥈 Ollie raced in the Op Club 1x and produced a strong time trial to place 11th overall and 4th in Club category in a competitive field. However the time trials produced some questionable timings across the Op 1x event, leading us to suggest he could have placed higher in the field. He still handled the situation well and competed hard against tough opposition in the B final, where he placed 6th. Well done Ollie.

Rebecca and Jessica in the W J18 2x came into Nottingham with good experience gained from Junior Sculling Regatta earlier in the week and ready to compete for the second time on the full regatta course. They placed 11th in the time trial while also finishing 2nd in their category and ahead of local rivals Agecroft. In the B Final, they got out strongly and held 4th position for much of the race before a close battle to the line with Warrington saw them finish in 5th place. Another positive step forward for this crew as they continue to gain confidence and experience racing at this level. Great effort girls🥈

Afternoon Division

The Op Club 2x of Ollie and Matty raced together for the first time at Nottingham. They placed 8th in the time trial and 3rd in Club category before taking on tougher conditions later in the day. Despite the increasingly choppy water, they fought through well to finish 5th in the B Final. Looking at the overall times, they would have placed 2nd in Club category, demonstrating this is a competitive crew to watch. A promising start for the double which we should hope to see again at upcoming regattas. 🥈

Junior coach Emily raced in the W Lwt 1x, making her debut in women’s lightweight events on the water. She placed 4th in the time trial against new opposition and secured her first A Final, as well as the win in her category due to the race format. Heading into the final, conditions had worsened significantly by this stage by creating choppy waters in true Nottingham fashion. Emily battled through the conditions well to finish 6th in the A Final while still maintaining 1st place overall in lightweight on time. 🥇

Overall, Nottingham City Regatta provided a really exciting and competitive day of racing for Trafford. All crews secured B final or above which is a fantastic result. Crews adapted well to the unique format and changing conditions, with strong performances in each category, and plenty of positives to build on heading into the rest of the regatta season. 💚🖤 Thank you to the Nottingham Regatta Committee for a great day 💙💛❤️🖤
