Trafford's junior racing and performance squads travelled to Eton Dorney for the second time this year to compete at The Junior Sculling Regatta with a total of 7 crews. Good rowing weather was on the cards, with a mix of light winds to cross-head winds throughout the day. As their first full length regatta course of the season, it was an strong day racing and a great experience all around for each crew. 💚🖤

The Op J14 4x+ of Leo, Ben, James, Joseph, with Tabby coxing, put together a seriously strong day of racing. An impressive 7:17 in the time trial and just 1 second off top spot showed they were in for a really good final later. They held 2nd place in the A final throughout and dealing well with the cross-head conditions. Great row! 🥈
The W J16 2x of Ellen and Isabelle had a fantastic day of racing. Rowing 8min in the time trial placed them 3rd, only 1 second ahead of Brentford. In the A final, it was clear it would be a fight between Trafford and Brentford for the bronze. They held 4th for the majority of the race, then through the 1750m marker they pulled a final sprint gaining over 3 lengths over 1min, taking 3rd over the line. Very impressive grit and determination, well done girls! 🥉

Tabby in the W J15 1x stepped up really well to make her first A Final, finishing 4th in the time trial. She handled the conditions confidently and raced hard through the middle of the course, right alongside Walton Rowing Club. The pace lifted late on but she stayed committed and came away with 5th overall. Strong result and clearly building towards more at this level. Great work Tabby.

The W J14 4x+ of Jemima, Min Yu, Holly, Molly, with Isobel coxing, placed 14th overall in the time trial, narrowly missing out on the B final by just 0.3 seconds. They came back well in the C Final and made it a nail-biting race, side by side with Yarm School all of the way. They stayed composed and finished with a strong sprint to take 2nd. Good fight and great teamwork girls.
Jessica and Rebecca in the W J18 2x made their national debut as a crew and handled it well. 12th in the time trial and 6th in the B Final is a solid first step at this level. They showed good composure across both races and handled the step up in competition well. This was a really valuable experience for them and a strong foundation to build on going forward. Well done both.
The Op J15 2x of Jai and Tristan, racing together for the first time, showed good potential. 15th in the time trial with little time as a crew is a solid starting point. This one will come with more time together. As they get more time in the boat and build rhythm, this is definitely a crew that can move up the field.
The Op J14 2x of Dan and Rory also made their first appearance at a national regatta and put in a strong effort. 8th in the time trial and just missing out on a final. They approached the race well with good pacing and confidence throughout. Really good effort and a great first go at this level.
Overall, a really solid day for Trafford's juniors. Our crews really stepped up in the first regatta of the season. A great experience and and plenty to take forward. Yeah Trafford! 💚🖤 Thank you to the Scullery for an excellent and superbly organised race 💙
