This year, 5 of Trafford’s juniors were selected to represent the North West at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta after producing leading performances at regional trials earlier in the season. Representing 'team orange' at JIRR is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work each junior has put in throughout the year. 🧡
Leo raced an age up in the Op J15 1x and produced an outstanding time trial, finishing 2nd overall and just 0.9 seconds off the fastest time. Looking forward to a promising A final, he was unfortunately obstructed by a (very silly) goose 🪿 causing quite a disruption and resulted in a 5th place finish. Nevertheless, a brilliant performance throughout the day and demonstrates huge potential- I'm sure he'll be back for more next year. Well done Leo.
Tabby raced in the W J15 1x and despite a wobble during the time trial which left her 11th overall and into the B Final, she responded brilliantly. In the final she went out hard, stayed aggressive through the race, and brought real grit in the second half to take the B Final win. A great example of fighting back after disappointment earlier in the day. Great work Tabby.
Ellen and Isabelle qualified to race together in the W J16 2x and delivered a promising performance in both the time trial and the final. They placed 8th in the time trial before going on to finish 3rd in the B Final. This was their first race in the double at national level, and finishing the middle of the pack is a solid start to the season especially with such tough opposition. Well done girls.
Sam earned selection into a North West composite Op J16 8+ after placing 3rd at the J16 singles trials, and 2nd in the 8+ at march trials. Racing in a very competitive event, the crew finished 10th in the time trial before placing 6th in the B Final. This was a great opportunity for Sam to race with his North West peers and alongside a very high standard of competition. Great work Sam. Overall, it was a brilliant day for Trafford juniors, with all athletes representing the North West strongly and showing resilience, determination, and quality racing throughout the regatta. For our J16 athletes, this was a great final opportunity to compete at JIRR and represent the region at this event, making it especially memorable. We hope to see Tabby, Leo and other Trafford juniors back again next year pushing for selection. đź’šđź–¤
